Configure automatic aligner design software for your lab
Setting up automatic aligner design software in a lab: one paid design engine on a machine you own, full data residency, and your branding on every case.
AlignerBot is the only Cympha workflow that requires a paid subscription and a Windows workstation. Every other Cympha workflow — running a clinic, taking clinician cases, sharing treatment plans with patients, ortho monitoring — is free and runs entirely in the browser. This chapter is the setup arc for a lab that wants to add AlignerBot to its services.
What a lab needs to run automatic aligner design software
- A Cympha lab account as Lab Manager (free). If you don't have one, the lab onboarding wizard sets it up in a few minutes.
- A GuideMia OrthoPlus subscription on gm.cympha.com (paid). OrthoPlus is the desktop orthodontic software that opens 3D scans, stages tooth movements, and computes aligner geometry.
- A Cympha Agent Manager installed and paired on a Windows workstation in your lab (free). The agent is the bridge that downloads each AlignerBot case, launches OrthoPlus on it, and uploads the result back to Cympha.
Plan on about 45 minutes end-to-end. Most of that is the OrthoPlus installer and the Stripe checkout.
Step 1 — Enable AlignerBot as a service on your lab
Sign into app.cympha.com as Lab Manager. Open your lab settings and find Services. Make sure AlignerBot is enabled. This makes the service visible to clinicians searching for a lab on the new-case form. Without it, AlignerBot submissions can't route to you.
Step 2 — Subscribe to OrthoPlus
Go to gm.cympha.com and sign in with the same Cympha account — GuideMia and Cympha share authentication. Open the products page, click OrthoPlus, and pick a tier and billing interval that fits the case volume you expect. Anything you pick is editable later from your account page; plan changes prorate correctly.
Step 3 — Activate OrthoPlus on the workstation
On gm.cympha.com under your subscription, click Generate activation code. The code is single-use, single-machine, and expires in ten minutes — generate it right before you need it.
Download the OrthoPlus installer from the same page (or from app.cympha.com's downloads page). Run it, finish with defaults, paste the activation code on first launch. OrthoPlus contacts gm.cympha.com, exchanges the code for a long-lived device token, and unlocks.
Step 4 — Install and pair the Agent Manager
On the same workstation, install the Cympha Agent Manager from app.cympha.com's downloads page. After install, a small Cympha icon appears in the system tray. Right-click → Pair to Cympha, enter your Cympha account email, click Send pair request. Switch to your already-signed-in browser tab — a Pair a new agent modal opens. Confirm the hostname and approve. The tray tooltip flips to Paired.
Step 5 — Assign the AlignerBot role
For an AlignerBot case to dispatch, the workstation that should run it must belong to a team member who holds the AlignerBot role. The Agent Manager polls Cympha on behalf of its paired account; the paired user has to be the one the case is assigned to.
If you're running AlignerBot off your own workstation, add the AlignerBot role to your own user on your team page. If a colleague is running AlignerBot, invite them with the AlignerBot role and have them pair the Agent Manager on their workstation.
Step 6 — Smoke-test with a real case
From a different email (a colleague's account on a different machine), sign up as a Customer, submit an AlignerBot case targeted at your lab. Switch to your Lab Manager account, open the queue, click Assign, pick the AlignerBot-role user. What should happen:
- Status flips to Designing.
- Within a minute, the Agent Manager tray shows a toast and OrthoPlus launches on the workstation.
- Phase-1 finishes, the agent uploads the plan, status flips to Awaiting Approval.
The most common stuck pipeline
No one on the team has the AlignerBot role. Cases land at Submitted with nowhere to dispatch. Check your team page if the smoke-test case doesn't move.
What this gives the lab
